ART IN THE PARK--JUNE 4 & 5, 2011

Art In The Park – the region’s largest, most eagerly-anticipated outdoor arts and crafts event takes place this coming weekend – Saturday June 4 and Sunday June 5 in Willistead Park.

What could be more enjoyable than casually strolling through the park on a fine late-spring day, wine glass in hand, enjoying the beautiful works art on display? At the 33rd annual Art in the Park this coming weekend, you will be able to do just that!

“Recent changes in Ontario’s liquor act permit – for the very first time – Art In The Park visitors to carry their refreshments with them, as they make their rounds of the exhibits”, Event Chair Shari Cunningham says. “Up until now, public consumption of wine, beer etc. has been limited to the Spirit Tent. But this year you will be able to take your drinks with you as you stroll the magical grounds of Willistead Park. These refreshments, of course, must be purchased in the park.”

Friday Evening Kickoff

Art in the Park weekend actually kicks off on Friday evening, June 3rd in the Spirit Tent. Retro band Greatest Hits Live headlines the lively Friday night program which takes place from 5 to 11 p.m. Tickets are just $10 and will be available at the Devonshire Road entrance to the park.

There is also great musical entertainment throughout the event, including on Saturday from noon to 11 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Booths are sold out with 275 exhibitors from across Ontario and Quebec on display to sell their art and creative crafts in enticing booths and displays arranged around the Willistead Park perimeter. Public viewing and shopping hours have again been extended from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Free Parking, Convenient Shuttles

The Rotary Club of Windsor (1918), which has hosted Art in The Park since 1978, has again partnered with Transit Windsor to provide free parking and complimentary shuttles to and from Willistead Park. Courtesy shuttles will run a continuous schedule between the two satellite parking lots – at the Hiram Walker employee lot at 2072 Riverside Drive E. at Montreuil St. and the Windsor Regional Hospital lot at 1591 Kildare Rd. just north of Tecumseh Rd. E. The shuttles will operate from 10 am to 11 pm on Saturday and 10 am to 5 pm on Sunday.
