Amherstburg Tall Ships and Dockside Festival Highlights Aug 30 to Sept. 1, 2013


Ships Ahoy – the time has come! This weekend marks the last stop on the “Tall Ships Challenge-Great Lakes 2013” tour before the epic re-enactment of the Battle of Lake Erie takes place in Put-In Bay, Ohio. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday Amherstburg and the surrounding area will play host to 8 Tall Ships with an array of dockside festivities and deck tours.

Tall Ships 1812 replica’s, Friends Goodwill and Lynx will be the featured ships docked in Kings Navy Yard Park, Amherstburg; at one time an official ship building port during the War of 1812.

WFCU Scholarship Applicatons Accepted Until April 26, 2013


2013 Harold Hewitt Scholarship – CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

 Windsor Family Credit Union (WFCU) is excited to announce that submissions are being accepted for the 2013 Harold Hewitt Scholarship.  The Harold Hewitt Scholarship (HHS) was established in 2001 as a yearly contribution to the post-secondary education of youth in our community.  Since 2001, over $60,000 has been presented under the HHS. WFCU is proud to continue the tradition by presenting a total of $5,000 to 16 youth through the HHS program this year.

Children enrolled in JK to Grade 12, are invited to tell us, in no more than 250 words, What do you think would make the Windsor-Essex Community a healthier and more active place to live and why?”

Selected submissions from each age category (noted below) will be chosen and the authors will be named recipients of WFCU’s 2013 Harold Hewitt Scholarship. 

Recipients from each age category will receive:

JK – Grade 2
3 @ $100 each
Grade 3 – Grade 5
3 @ $200 each
Grade 6 – Grade 8
3 @ $300 each
Grade 9 – Grade 10
3 @ $400 each
Grade 11 – Grade 12
4 @ $500 each

This special scholarship was inspired by the late Harold Hewitt, WFCU’s long term Director on the Board whose dedication to the community was an integral part of the Credit Union.

Michele Law, "Walking Through Every Door that Opens"
From hospital fundraiser to touring musician, Michele Law is now an award-winning singer songwriter and respected professional musician, with 6 CDs of original music. Together with her husband, The Laws have shared the stage with everyone from Randy Bachman (the Guess Who, BTO) to Blue Rodeo, have been featured on CMT, PBS specials, Entertainment Tonight and dozens of magazine and newspapers. Accomplished cooks, they also have a cookbook, instructional DVD and have done pasta-making workshops everywhere from Dallas, Texas to Melbourne, Australia. They recently opened two music stores: Rebel Cowboy Music in Wheatley and a new store in Kingsville. Michele is a licensed Kindermusik instructor, helping to bring the gift of music to children from newborn to 7 years of age. It seems that life has come full circle as she puts her fundraising and public relations experience to work on their newest venture: The Kingsville Folk Music Festival.
